Dr. Seuss characters invite you to join this popular 8K run/walk that will travel from magical Balboa Park, through downtown San Diego, and finish with festive entertainment at Pantoja Park. Proceeds from the event will support literacy programs to improve reading abilities for persons of all ages.

A memorial service will be held in honor of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Family survivors and concerned citizens will join the Mayor, Chief of Police, Sheriff, and Police Officers to give tribute to these brave men and women.

May 9 – 98th Annual Portuguese Festival of the Holy Spirit
This event is the oldest ethnic celebration in California hosted by the Portuguese community. Come and enjoy traditional lively music and dancing; plus beer, wine, food, bakery, merchandise, and games for all ages.

May 10 – 5th Annual Surfrider Beach to Brewery
An adult (age 21+) event will begin with a bike ride and conclude with a fun bash at the Karl Strauss Brewery. Although the bike ride is optional, the event at the brewery will be the highlight of the day. People can meet and mingle, enjoy cool beer, catered food, and dance to the music.

The event offers a rare opportunity to take a 5K or a 1.5K safari within the San Diego Zoo and surrounding area. You’ll see the zoo in the morning when many animals are awake and active and being cared for by their keepers. Proceeds from this event will benefit research programs for liver disease.

Cyclists are coming to Fiesta Island to compete at cycling. The event offers professional, recreational, and young riders an ideal location to experience competitive cycling in a safe and controlled environment.

May 17 – 2nd Annual San Diego Century Bicycle Tour
Cyclists from Southern California and throughout the country can test their endurance at this cycling event. Riders can choose between a challenging 37-mile course, a grueling 66-mile course or an extreme 103-mile course. All rides begin and end at Mira Costa College in Encinitas.

May 25 – Pedal to the Park
Persons of all ages and abilities can share the benefits of cycling and the social enjoyment at the ballpark. Participants will ride their bikes from Balboa Park to Petco Park to watch the game (Padres vs Reds) and pedal back to the Balboa Park when the game is over.

The community of Kensington is hosting a running event as a kick-off to a parade. It consists of a 1-mile relay of 4-person teams of various ages and abilities. This event is in conjunction with the “Holiday at Home Parade” and the “Holiday at Home Bazaar”.
