The residents enjoy a sunny all-year long location by the beach and the beach lies below water-sculpted sandstone bluffs. Solana Beach offers family-friendly and un-crowded beaches.
There is a 2 mile paved path constructed on the east side of Route 101 for walking and biking. It is away from the traffic, it’s a comfortable course and it’s complete with benches to sit on and soak in the beauty of its surroundings.
Along Route 101, you will find surf shops, hotels, galleries of all sorts and a variety of restaurants. Solana Beach has some of the best art and antique shopping. It is just minutes away to the world-class Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for live horse racing from the end of July through mid-September and the San Diego County Fair (formerly known as the Del Mar Fair). It is one the largest fairs in North America which runs from the second week of June and ends on July 4 every year.
The city of Solana Beach was incorporated in 1986. Property values have continued to increase as it is considered a very desirable upscale community that has become home to many artisans, high tech businesses and professionals who enjoy beach living and ocean view condos and ocean front homes.
The train station was moved from Del Mar to Solana Beach in 1995 and a new station was constructed shortly thereafter. The station’s modern architecture has become a local landmark. The Cedros Design District is home to a number of artisans, decorators and antique dealers.
