Native American linguist insisted that Poway means “here, where the waters meet” was traditionally translated by consensus to “the two little valleys”. Although most residents think that this city is an old Western-style cowboy town, its roots is actually in agricultural that failed following expansions.
Poway real estate consists mainly of a residential community for residents that are employed in and around the area. Properties in the city is a mix of custom built homes, attached and single family homes, townhomes, condominiums and apartments. Some of the homes are built on large lots with rustic feeling to them. There are also areas in the city that are zoned for horses.
The heart and soul of this community is Poway Road which is lined with a variety of restaurants in every scale and ethnicity, grocery stores, service shops, “mom and pop” shops that have retained their original locations for years and years, modest shopping centers, car dealers and many other commercial businesses.
One of the oldest architecture and the town’s first church that has remained in Poway since 1883 and it’s still in operation is The Community Church of Poway. Back then, most of the residents only practiced Methodism. Today the religious demographic of Poway has grown in numbers.
Another attraction of the city and the center of the community is the Old Poway Park. The park hosts many wonderful events annually and is home to a vintage train where visitors can ride on weekends. Another spot in the city that offers all sorts of recreation is Lake Poway.
The school district of Poway was established in 1871 and today, the Poway Unified School District is the most prestigious district in the county of San Diego.
