Fallbrook is located north of Escondido on the I-15 corridor just before the San Diego County line. The first recorded settlers
were the Vital Reche family who arrived in 1869 and named the area for their Pennsylvania homestead, Fall Brook.
The climate in Fallbrook is suitable for sub-tropical fruits, vegetables, avocados, olives and flower growing and agriculture remains the main business of the area. At one time it was known as "The Avocado Capital of the World." There are 50 wholesale and retail nurseries in the community.
Fallbrook homes are often on large acreage, and there are four golf courses tucked into the rolling hills. Fallbrook residents are within an easy commute of Orange County, Riverside County and Camp Pendleton.
Main Street has been preserved much as it was earlier in the century. It reminds visitors of towns in the Midwest. The historical buildings house antique shops and galleries these days. There are also seven shopping centers.
The Palomares House dates to 1874. The house and gardens are open for community meetings. Live Oak Park and Los Jilgueros Preserve provide open space for recreational activities. The Dinwiddie Preserve conserves meadowlands and is open for public use.
