El Cajon is a valley nestled below the San Diego foothills in the county of San Diego, California. Land area is about 14.6 square miles and in 2004, the population was around 93,987. It is approximately 15 miles from downtown San Diego and has easy access to all other areas of the county. The Lindbergh Field International airport is about 17 miles away and Gillespie Field, a public-use airport, is 2 miles from downtown El Cajon. This community is also surrounded by public and private colleges and is only minutes away from San Diego State University (SDSU).
El Cajon is a vibrant community with a variety of shopping and restaurants. It is probably best known as the city that started the Mother Goose Parade that is held around Thanksgiving for over 50 years now. This community is also home to the East County Performing Arts Center.
